HIGH FIVE #8

-

Once again, we look back at our five favorite free songs from this month which you can all download below each respective track or directly via Soundcloud.

Being a mediocre R&B singer with little to no output in the last years since her debut in 2006, it is stunning to see that Cassie is still loved and used heavily especially within the electronic music scene. Nearly three years after Local Action put out Skydiver - their excellent remix compilation tributing Cassie – from which Jacques Greene, Lunice and others gained their first well deserved recognition, it is Tri Angle‘s Vessel who relieved her first single Me & U with a great rework last month. Listen below and download right here.

Another great rework of a classic comes from Paris based youngster Fitzroy who clothed Nas’ & AZ’s Life’s A Bitch acapellas with an old school outfit that sounds both reminiscent of back in the day and fresh out the box at the same time. Big one!

It is the second time we have Jaw Jam in our monthly top five this year and again it is somewhat of a rework, you see a pattern here? Anyway this time it is from the long forgotten but still great cheesecake Lloyd who gets the Garage treatment. To get to know the former better, make sure to check his corresponding interview with Okayfuture.

After his stunning efforts on Brainfeeder, beatsmith and rapper Jeremiah Jae comes through with his Bad Jokes mixtape for the label’s big brother Warp to get some more well deserved kudos. And he surely will, with tracks like Oatmeal Face that features a once again ridiculous contra bass driven production by Flying Lotus that Jae attacks laid back like a couch. Get the track as part of the mixtape right here.

The Prince of Ballard relaxes close to Seattle and loves long walks on the beach and beer in the can. At least that is what he shares on his Soundcloud as an excuse for late responses to his fans. Nontheless he seemed busy producing recently as he just released a tape full of great edits for French online radio LeMellotron. Especially his laid back Funk take on Aaliyah’s Rock The Boat is something else. Get that and the whole Beachlife tape right here.
