HIGH FIVE #3
HIGH FIVE #3, our personal top five songs from February 2013 for you – dear readers – to listen to and download for free below.
On a side note, we are currently facing a lot of work besides the blog but will be back in full effect in April. Until then we will nonetheless make some posts from time to time, so stay tuned and make sure to follow us on our Soundcloud and Twitter!
First up we have a standout from many musical Valentine’s Day gifts. Courtesy of Jaw Jam‘s chopped and warped up rework of Mya’s classic 2003′ ballad My Love Is Like…Wo. Presented by Kastle operated Symbols Recordings, which will release a new EP from this promising New Jersey born talent in late spring.
The Red Bull Music Academy started a new documentary series H∆SHTAG$, chronicling – what they call – “the sound of the internet” in dedicating each episode to another musical phenomenon. Episode 3 of the series compellingly looked into the global development of rap within the internet sphere and got many key players like SpaceGhostPurrp, Main Attraktionz, Flatbush Zombies and London based collective Piff Gang on the mic. Watch the episode right HERE and download Piff Gang’s great Sumgii produced posse cut Bionic down below.
Jonwayne recently tweeted “It’s likely bullshit when someone says “blah blah is my year” but honestly I’ve spent all of 2012 preparing for 2013.” He got signed to Peanut Butter Wolf’s Stones Throw Records a little over a year ago and has obviously been busy since then, both making beats and rapping. His album is done and he just shared a leftover from the sessions yesterday to make you want that album right now! You can download Royalty right HERE.
Number four marks the collaborative effort from Chicago raised Brenmar and NYC ballroom expert slash Qween Beat head honcho MikeQ who serve a fusion of shaking beads and distorted bursts of Altern8′s rave classic Frequency as the background for Tigga Calore‘s Beads single.
Lastly there is a surprise from Lone who is responsible for one of the best releases of 2012 with his R&S debut album Galaxy Garden. He was never known for putting out stuff other then his official releases but luckily and without any explanation he just shared the dreamy AM Portal via his soundcloud for free.
